It’s February (already—how fast the year is going by!) and we are all fully in the swing of things. Now that we feel comfortable with our co-oping duties we can enjoy all the wonders of our children’s learning, socializing, and growing. We are so lucky that our children get to learn through play! Not only do small children assimilate and retain information about their world naturally through play, but getting to learn through play makes kids want to come back for more. Our children are coming to believe that school is fun. What a great foundation for their school years!
A huge thanks to Gwen Helvey, Nancy and Connie for last week’s screening of “Consuming Kids: The Commercialization of Childhood.” I learned a lot, and it was great to have such a turnout.
Thanks to all of you for helping get a quick vote on our Nomination Committee! Note that once the committee has figured out next year’s Board, I’ll be coming back to all of you for another vote. These votes are a necessary part of the running of LNS, so I appreciate your fast response! And while we’re talking about the Board, I hope anyone returning to LNS next year will give serious thought to being on next year’s Board. It’s an incredibly rewarding (and fun!) way to be involved with the school. So check out the list of positions and talk to our Nomination Committee about how you can be a part of the 2010-2011 LNS Governing Board!
Our Spring Social & Auction is coming up soon, so book your sitters! The event will be held at the home of PM parents Karl and Kristin Mills. Thanks so much to Karl and Kristin for offering their home to us! In the next month keep a look out for a food sign-up sheet from our Social Team (Nancy Turtle and Larissa Kosla). Also watch for the much-anticipated auction booklet from our Ways and Means team (Tifanie Mikalis and Jeannine Lyons), which lists all the fun and fabulous items donated for the benefit of our school. Most importantly, note that although this is our school’s primary fundraising opportunity, it is first and foremost a social event! So even if you have no interest in the auction, please join me at the Mills home on March 6th for food, fellowship, and fun with your fellow LNS parents.
May 1st is the 32nd Annual Science Day of Discovery at LNS. For those who have not experienced this fun day of kid-sized science, this annual event is a great way for our school and families to give back to the community (and it’s a heck of a lot of fun too!). In order for this day to be a success ALL LNS families work in some capacity to help. So save the day – May 1st – and get ready for some squishy, slimy, colorful, hands-on science fun! Also, please note that our Science Day of Discovery team is still assembling and could use more help, so if you are interested in helping run this fabulous event, contact me!
Enjoy
